Four police officers working an WNBA game in Minnesota walked off the job Saturday after comments by three players at a pre-game news conference.
“Change starts with us, justice and accountability,” read the fronts of the shirts of three Minnesota Lynx players, minutes before their contest with the Dallas Wings at the Target Center in Minneapolis. On the backs of their shirts were the names of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, the phrase “Black Lives Matter” and the Dallas Police Department emblem.
So by leaving they’re protesting against people protesting against their unaccountability.
What math told me about three negatives. Does that make a positive or not?
(-)(-)(-) = (-), yes, it remains negative
Nothing is ever going to get better if people who ask for accountability are ignored.
It isn’t the first time sports stars have added their voices to a chorus of protesters speaking out over police violence. In 2014, after a New York grand jury decided not to indict an officer in the death of Eric Garner, athletes across the United States wore T-shirts emblazoned with Garner’s last words, “I can’t breathe.”
Earlier that year, five players from the St. Louis Rams walked onto the football field with their palms in the air, demonstrating the “hands up, don’t shoot” gesture that protesters used in demonstrations over the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
They also seized Abdullah Muflahi’s cell phone that had recorded the shooting, before handcuffing him and placing him in the back of a patrol car.
They did all this without a warrant, which is illegal.
On Monday, Muflahi, who owns the Triple S Food Mart, filed a lawsuit against the Baton Rouge Police Department, which you can read here.
“After Sterling was shot, lying on his back with a gaping bullet wound to his chest, Lake reaches into Sterling’s front pocket and pulls out what appears to be small handgun as Salomoni yells at him to get on the ground. The video ends moments later.”
That was when the two cops stormed into the store and began dismantling his security system, not even pretending to need a warrant, according to the lawsuit.
They also seized his phone and placed him handcuffed in the back of a patrol car. More cops arrived as Muflahi remained cuffed in the car, doing their part to remove the cameras and monitors from the store.
“They are supposed to wear body cams in that department. So the conduct of fucking with the surveillance video, etc should all be captured on publically-owned video”
Redundant data storage. Hand over one copy as requested, keep another. This is going to be the only way to combat these thugs.I want to preserve evidence of the truth, whether it exonerates or convicts the officers.
i feel like he’s about to get arrested for some warrants he didn’t even know he had.
Chris LeDay posted Alton Sterling shooting video arrested 24 hours later on fabricated charges
does anyone else ever forget that men aren’t expected to shave their armpits even though they’re so hairy, and then a guy lifts his arms up and you’re actually fucking shocked because you expect there to be skin but instead you’re greeted with 2 fur trappers, 5 families of elk and an ancient civilization that’s pretty close to inventing flying cars
Cant stress this enough lol. My friends call it punishment but I really do enjoy being in my apartment doing whatever tf.. I can only tolerate so much company. Close friends, right hand, girlfriend it don’t matter. I like privacy.
